Arabica coffee

Arabica coffee (Coffea arabica) is the most globally recognized and consumed coffee species, accounting for approximately 60-70% of the world’s production. It is highly prized by coffee enthusiasts and the specialty market for its complex flavor, aromatic profile, and desirable acidity.

Flavor and Profile

  • Arabica is celebrated for its refined and nuanced taste profile, which is largely attributed to its higher content of sugars, oils, and favorable acids.

    • Taste Profile: Generally described as smooth, sweet, and complex. It has an appealing bright acidity (often likened to wine or fruit) and lacks the strong bitterness often associated with Robusta.

    • Flavor Notes: The specific notes are highly variable by region and processing, but commonly include hints of:

      • Chocolate and Caramel

      • Nuts (e.g., Brazil, Colombia)

      • Fruity/Berry notes (e.g., Ethiopia, Kenya)

      • Floral notes (e.g., Gesha variety, Yirgacheffe)

    • Caffeine Content: Arabica has a relatively low caffeine content, typically around 1.5% by weight, which is about half that of Robusta. The lower caffeine contributes to its milder, less bitter taste.
